A good week
Ok. Wow! I am super psyched to have made it through this week and to have gotten in EVERY.SINGLE.WORKOUT! Monday I went out for a 5 mile run - had to do the long distance to prepare for the Army 10 miler in October. I was excited to see that I negative-split the second half of the run and didn't have much residual pain.
Tuesday I decided to be bold and try something entirely different: body pump. A few of my friends have been talking it up and while I typically hate group workouts I thought I'd give it a shot. I kept the weight light since I didn't know what I was in for and even with that, holy cow was I sore on Wednesday! I think it was probably a combination of the 5 miles on Monday, the Body Pump, and the elevator in my office going out (I work on the 6th floor) but on Wednesday it took me a good 30 seconds to squat or bend my legs properly because I was so sore.
Despite the pain, I got out the door to do intervals with E on Wednesday morning and we rocked it - negative splitting each interval, we went further than last week and ran faster. But oh did it hurt!
Today I got up and hit Body Pump again. This time it seems to have helped alleviate some of the residual pain. After two workouts I'm liking the format of the class and can see that if I stick to it I'll see some really good results. The instructor takes you through a full-body weight training circuit and it's actually challenging enough that if hard-core lifters came in, I think they'd be crying for mama. That's the kind of class I like.
With the week behind me I have to say, I'm feeling like I'm in a good place. I'm excited about getting up to work out. Getting up at 0530 is getting easier and for the first time in a long time I actually feel like the schedule I've planned is sustainable. Best of all, the Army 10 miler is feeling doable. That's an awesome place to be in.
